Notes:
The "Album of the Eye" EP concept was inspired by the "Book of the Eye"
drawings from the sketchbooks of UHS class of 99 alumni/cafe
co-worker Tristan Duke (also referenced in the uncropped version of the collaborative drawing for When Eggs Go Rotten—see The Octopus, May 11-17, 2001). It was mostly recorded at the 803 E. Washington
address from the Groove Timber liner notes where the actual Polehouse
(tree house minus the tree) is located—the drawing in the liner notes is an abstract representation of the living room of that home studio, referred to here as the Psychosis Garden. Montgomery, who was simultaneously laying down guitar overdubs for the debut Invisible album that followed, had made a few 4-track recordings with his Tascam that
were also included, which were recorded at his house where The Invisible
originally rehearsed, and where the self produced Groove Timber cassette had been recorded while the band was still in High-school. After a series of name changes (that included Fisticuffs and Polaris) The Invisible had finally been settled on in time for one performance at an end of the year party in the cafeteria just before graduation, and this first release under the new name was recorded during the summer that followed. Hapke, who later overdubbed instrumentation
on the High Street Orchestra track Insight, and worked with CU
producer Paul Kotheimer on Hollowed Out, also ended up putting down some experimental
sound effects overdubs on the debut Invisible album Here It Comes that
didn't make it into the final mix. His involvement with The Invisible was preceded by a hand made Industrial Ambient cassette that was distributed in equally small numbers. The Album of the Eye was limited to
around twenty copies that were each xeroxed in black and white with a
hand colored eye in green, blue, or brown.
